GIA Program
What is GIA?
Goals in Action (GIA) is a program grounded in psychological science and supports undergraduate students as they develop and reach their academic goals. This program is intended for students who would like to develop greater academic resilience and skills, and may be appropriate for students who are struggling academically, at risk or are on academic recovery plans, or at risk for dismissal.
GIA is comprehensive in its approach to achieving academic resilience, as emotional, social, and psychological wellbeing are centered as integral to academic resilience.
The program centers on identifying students’ strengths and resources and focuses on the following:
- Teaches students how to develop their goals based on their values and align their actions accordingly, as values-driven action is more sustainable in the long run.
- Building healthy skills to manage stressors and time, and finding balance with meeting personal and academic demands.
- Other vital skills for academic resilience (e.g., identifying barriers and seeking out support, ways to reach out to professors, community supports, addressing and overcoming imposter phenomenon, etc.)
GIA program is 5 weeks long and classes are offered in-person and virtually, with each class running for 90 minutes.
