Transitioning Into Fall

As we transition from Summer into Fall, you may also have one or a few life transitions yourself! This might be starting college, starting a new job or being in a new environment. Here are some tips to manage these transitions:

Find Your Rhythm: With change comes the need to develop new routines. Using tools like Google Calendar or a planner can help you organize your days and feel more prepared. Make sure to include time for adequate sleep, nutritious meals and self-care!

Get Daily Exercise or Movement: We might find ourselves overwhelmed with a busy schedule and spending a lot of time sitting. Try to incorporate some form of movement into your day whether it be going to the ARC or taking a walk around campus.

Set Small Goals: It may feel like you have a lot to do after a new transition. Take things one task at time and set small, short-term goals that you can plan to accomplish.

Connect with Others: Social support is important during times of transitions. Have a friend that you have not talked to in a while? Reach out and say hello! Dedicating time to spend with friends or family can help us feel less lonely.

Self-Compassion: Change is difficult and we may encounter some challenges in navigating life transitions. It is okay and completely normal to feel overwhelmed or stressed. Remind yourself, “I’m doing the best I can in this moment and I will get through this.”

Check in With Your Mental Health: Take a moment to reflect on how you are feeling during this transition. Ask yourself questions such as: Has my mood changed? Am I sleeping/eating more or less than usual? Am I isolating myself from others?
