Single Session Therapy
• Concern requires one session only
• Concern is not a crisis
First Step: Schedule a Single-Session Therapy visit. (Call (949) 824-6457 / Schedule online)
Short-Term Therapy
• Brief, goal-focused support
• Sessions typically every 2-3 weeks
• Concerns can be addressed in one academic quarter
Individual Short-Term Therapy
• One-on-one sessions with therapist
• Common concerns addressed: anxiety, stress, depression, self-esteem, relationship challenges, academic concerns, grief or loss, difficulty adjusting to college
Relationship/Couples Short-Term Therapy
• Therapy to improve relationships between romantic partners, consensually non-monogamous partners, friends, or siblings
• All participants must be UCI students

Long-term Therapy and Therapy with a Specialist are available off-campus.
Long-Term Therapy
• Weekly therapy
• Therapy beyond a few months
• For more complicated, long-standing concerns
Therapy with a Specialist
• For specific conditions (e.g., trauma, OCD, eating disorders, chronic insomnia, etc.)
• Specialists have advanced training in specific conditions

Group Therapy
• Most effective therapy for many college student concerns
• Therapist-led, small group (5-8 members) with similar concerns; explore challenges, practice skills, and gain insights
• Regular attendance required
• Group is open for registration up to the 3rd week of each quarter

Workshops
• Drop-in setting to learn about personal mental health topics, resources and related skills
• No registration required

Resource Support with a Social Worker
• Referrals for mental health services off-campus, such as:
• Long Term Therapy
• Specialized Therapy
• Therapy in the evenings or on weekends
• Help navigating private insurance coverage for mental health services
• Help accessing other campus resources (e.g., food, housing, financial, legal etc.)

Psychological Assessment
• Formal psychological assessment with testing can be helpful when a diagnosis and treatment plan are not clear through an initial assessment and therapy

• If you have received therapy at the Counseling Center, you may either call our front desk or secure message your provider directly to discuss your assessment needs.

Learning Disability Assessment
• To identify potential learning challenges for possible academic accommodations

ADHD Assessment
• To assess potential ADHD diagnosis

Psychiatry Services (medication for mental health treatment)
• UCI SHIP insurance:
• Call (949) 824-5301 to schedule with a UCI Student Health Center psychiatrist.

Mental Health Documentation
• If you need mental health documentation (including Education Abroad Program (EAP) Clearance), please review the process below based on your care history with us:
• Current/Recent Clients: If you have seen a provider at the Counseling Center, please contact the provider. You may either call our front desk or secure message your provider directly to discuss your documentation needs.
• New Clients: The only documentation the Counseling Center is able to provide to most new clients is a verification of attendance to an appointment. However, the following options are available:
• If you are interested in therapy in addition to discussing your documentation needs, schedule an Initial Assessment visit. (Call (949) 824-6457 / Schedule online)
• If you are not interested in therapy but would like to discuss your documentation needs, you may schedule a Single-Session Therapy visit. (Call (949) 824-6457 / Schedule online)
• If you would like assistance finding an off-campus provider who may be able to provide more detailed documentation than a verification of attendance, schedule a Resource Support with a Social Worker visit. (Call (949) 824-6457 / Schedule online)
• Emotional Support Animal (ESA) Letters
• UCI Counseling Center does not provide ESA letters.

Fall, winter, and spring quarters: 8:00am- 4:00pm, Monday through Friday

Examples of a Crisis:
• Having thoughts of harming self or others
• Recent sexual assault or other trauma
• Death of a significant person or companion in your life
• A personal crisis that needs immediate attention

A crisis care therapist is available to 24 hours a day 7 days a week. If you are in crisis, the therapist will work with you to form a plan to manage your urgent situation. Anyone who is seriously concerned about another student may also call or come to the Counseling Center to consult with the crisis care therapist.
